Back-testing Expert Advisors In MT4

So you've downloaded an EA installed it into MT4 but don't want to run it on your demo account for 3 months just to see if the EA works or not.. You can run a simple back-test using strategy tester in your meta trader 4.

Here's how:

Let's say that you want to run the EA on EUR/USD, time frame M15

• You need to download the history data for EUR/USD so you can run a test on it.
  In your MT4 click TOOLS->HISTORY CENTER and find your pair (EUR/USD) double click on it, select the 15 Minutes (M15) time frame and click download
• Now go to the chart view and right click the mouse button, select Expert Advisor and Strategy Tester (or shortcut F6)
• Now select your (XY) EA, Symbol EUR/USD, click on use date and select a time frame for 3 months or a year.... On the right select Period M15, Click on Expert properties and change the properties as you wish, Initial deposit and all the EA parameters and click OK.
• Click START and the testing will begin.

You can monitor the Results, Graph and the Journal while testing on the bottom tabs
